Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need to Make an Appointment?
Appointments are highly recommended, but they’re not required. We’re happy to welcome walk-ins and will accommodate them on a first-come, first-served basis depending on artist availability. However, booking ahead ensures you have a dedicated time with the artist best suited for your project.
How Do I Make an Appointment?
Booking an appointment is simple! You can reach out via our website www.AtlantaInk.com or give us a call. We start with a free consultation to discuss your ideas in detail, including references, sketches, placement, and size, to ensure you and your artist are perfectly aligned. After your consultation, we request a deposit to secure your slot and start the design process. On your appointment day, we’ll make any final adjustments to create the perfect design for your tattoo.
Why Do I Need to Make a Deposit?
A deposit confirms your commitment to the project, ensuring your artist is prepared and ready to bring your vision to life. The deposit will be deducted from the total cost on the day of your appointment. While deposits are transferable if you need to reschedule, they’re non-refundable and non-transferable to other clients.
How Much Does a Tattoo Cost?
The cost of a tattoo can vary widely, much like the price of a car or a house. Due to the intricate nature of our work, we do not provide quotes over the phone or via email. Only your artist can give you an accurate estimate after discussing your project in detail. It’s important to understand that large tattoo designs may evolve over time, potentially altering the initial cost estimate. Open communication with your artist about any changes and how multiple sessions may impact the final price is essential.
For simpler tattoos, we do have a shop minimum. Keep in mind that even small or seemingly simple tattoos involve setup costs and strict hygiene protocols to prevent exposure to blood-borne pathogens. As such, the cost of a small tattoo may not necessarily be lower, especially since small, intricate designs can sometimes require more time and skill than larger pieces.
Each artist has their own pricing structure based on their experience and the complexity of the work. Remember, you’re investing in a piece of art that will last a lifetime. Quality tattoos may come at a higher price, and often, cheaper options don’t deliver the same level of craftsmanship.
What Forms of Payment Do You Accept?
At Atlanta Ink Tattoo & Art Gallery, we do not accept cash, but we do accept a variety of digital payment methods, including credit cards, Zelle, ApplePay, and other forms of electronic payment.
Can You Cover or Fix My Old Tattoo?
Absolutely! All of our artists are experienced in creating cover-up pieces and reworking old tattoos. Since each situation is unique, we recommend scheduling a consultation to discuss the possibilities and options that will work with your existing piece.
Can I Get a Tattoo if I’m Under 18?
Unfortunately, the state of Georgia does not allow minors to receive tattoos, even with parental consent. However, minors are allowed to get piercings as long as they are accompanied by a consenting parent.
Can I Get a Tattoo if I Am Pregnant?
While it is not illegal in Georgia to get a tattoo while pregnant, we do not recommend it. If you have consulted with your healthcare provider and wish to proceed, we are open to discussing the possibility. Your health and safety, as well as that of your baby, are our top priorities.
My Appointment is Coming Up… What Do I Need to Do or Bring with Me?
As your appointment approaches, here are some helpful tips to ensure a smooth experience:
Rest and Nutrition: Make sure to get a good night’s sleep and have a solid meal before your appointment. This will help you stay relaxed and energized during the tattooing process.
Hydration: We provide bottled water for our clients, but if you have specific drinks or snacks you prefer, feel free to bring them along.
Dress Accordingly: If your tattoo will require you to expose certain areas of your body, plan your outfit accordingly. You may also want to bring something to change into for added comfort.
Comfort and Protection: We have private shields available to ensure your comfort. However, keep in mind that ink seepage or splattering is always a possibility. Avoid wearing your favorite outfit, as we wouldn’t want any accidents to spoil it!
Mental Preparation: Take a moment to relax and mentally prepare yourself for the experience. Your artist will be there to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
We look forward to seeing you and helping you create your dream tattoo!
Aftercare Instructions for Your New Tattoo
Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential for ensuring it heals beautifully. Follow these instructions carefully:
Initial Bandage:
Leave the bandage on for the first night.
Remove the bandage in the morning when you shower.
Washing Your Tattoo:
Wash your tattoo with dye-free, scent-free soap (preferably antibacterial) and warm water (as warm as you can handle).
Pat dry gently with clean paper towels (do not rub or wipe), or allow it to air dry.
Applying Ointment:
Apply a THIN layer of ointment, such as Aquaphor or other aftercare products designed for tattoos (e.g., H2Ocean, Tattoo Goo, After Inked).
Remember, the skin needs to breathe while healing, so avoid excessive ointment.
Reapply ointment every 2 hours for the first four days and wash your tattoo with soap and warm water at least 2-3 times daily.
Sleeping Care:
Wrap your tattoo while you sleep for the first 3 nights.
Wash your tattoo, apply a thin layer of ointment, and wrap it with clean saran wrap (secure it with medical tape if necessary).
This helps prevent your tattoo from drying out and sticking to sheets or clothing.
DO NOT exceed three nights of bandaging your tattoo!
Peeling Phase:
With proper care, your tattoo should begin to peel within 3 to 5 days, similar to a sunburn.
DO NOT pick or scratch at the peeling scabs; your body will naturally let them flake off when ready.
Once the peeling has stopped, switch to a colorless, fragrance-free lotion (we recommend Curel).
Moisturizing:
Keep your tattoo clean and prevent it from drying out.
If your tattoo/skin feels "tight," or if it has been more than 2 hours, moisturize!
Touch-Ups:
Take excellent care of your tattoo during the healing process, as all touch-ups will require a setup fee.
Beyond Day 14: Ongoing Tattoo Care
Congratulations on making it past the initial healing phase! Here’s how to keep your tattoo looking its best in the long run:
Moisturize Sparingly:
After the initial healing period, you can reduce the frequency of balm application.
Gradually transition to using a mild, unscented lotion to maintain moisture and prevent dryness.
Protect from Sun:
Always use a sunscreen with a high SPF when exposing your tattoo to sunlight.
Sunburn can fade and damage your tattoo, so protecting it is essential for preserving its vibrancy.
Important Reminder:
Every tattoo and individual healing process can vary. It’s crucial to follow the advice of your tattoo artist for the best results. With proper care, your tattoo will heal beautifully and stay vibrant for years to come! If you have any questions or concerns about your ongoing care, feel free to reach out to us.
